Using Essential Oils as Disinfectants

Because of the unique properties found in essential oils, you can easily use essential oils as disinfectants. Using essential oils as disinfectants provides you with a completely natural alternative to harsh chemicals.

All essential oils have disinfectant properties, though some have higher degrees. Using the right essential oils as disinfectants not only has the advantage of cleaning the area you are targeting, the room will also smell great, and not like a chemical bath.

When using essential oils as disinfectants, most of the citrus oils are high in disinfectant properties, as are lavender, tea tree and bergamot. To use any or a blend of these essential oils as disinfectants, simply add to warm water to clean the floor, or place on a damp cloth to clean surfaces.

To create a cleaning blend which uses essential oils as disinfectants, try the following recipes:

Deodorizing and Disinfectant Spray
6 drops Grapefruit oil
6 drops Rosemary oil
4 drop Lemon oil
2 oz (60ml) distilled or purified water

Combine the ingredients in a glass spritzer bottle and spray as necessary, shaking before use. This combination can also be used in a burner or diffuser (without the water in a diffuser).

Air Freshener
6 drops Orange oil
4 drops Cinnamon Leaf oil
4 oz (120ml) distilled or purified water

Combine the ingredients in a glass spritzer bottle and spray as required, shaking before use.

When using essential oils as disinfectants, it is important that only therapeutic grade oils be used. Synthetic oils, though cheaper, have no disinfecting properties, and may actually be harmful. It is certain that they can’t be used like essential oils as disinfectants.

You can easily find more information about using essential oils as disinfectants in a good aromatherapy book. A good book will list the oils that have the highest disinfectant properties, and will usually include some recipes that you can try.

The internet is also a good source for finding information about essential oils as disinfectants. As more and more people turn to natural alternatives, more information becomes available on the internet. You can even find a few select sites offering informative classes and resources about aromatherapy free of charge.

Tea Tree Oil Information, Uses and Recipes

Botanical Name: Melaleuca alternifolia

Don’t leave home without this powerful essential oil that is a healer and anti-biotic. This oil has few rivals, bolsters morale and resistance. Colds, flu, bronchitis, sinusitis, candida, bacterial and fungal infections and weak immune systems.

As a natural antiseptic, Tea Tree’s anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties make this a very versatile oil. Tea Tree acts as an immune booster for the body in the defense of these threats (bacteria, viruses or fungi). It is one of the few oils that can be used directly on the skin without the aid of a carrier oil. As always, less is more when it comes to Essential Oils; if you are using it directly on the skin, apply only one drop.

Great in first aid kits; Tea Tree Oil can be used for bug bites, acne, boils, athlete’s foot (try when combining with Lemongrass Oil) and herpes blisters. The oil may assist in the reproduction of white blood cells, thereby making it helpful when dealing with colds, influenza, coughs and sore throats. As well, the oil has been said to combat yeast infections (try adding a couple of drops to a warm sitz bath) and candida.

Essential Oil Therapy - Is There a Possibility of Controlling the Level of Cholesterol in Your Body With Essential Oil?

It should not be new to you that there is a connection between the mind and the body as a result of the application of essential oils. Remember that the mind and the body should function in unison for your whole being to function at its maximum. The use of essential oil as a curative remedy has proven to be very effective even in cases of persistent illnesses. If there is any chance that essential oil from natural herbs can offer as a cure to cholesterol, you must not let that chance go by without you benefiting from it. Keep in mind that natural plants have an immense volume of medicinal properties and can be conveniently used without the least fear of side effects. Can essential oil serve as a cure to cholesterol? This is what the following lines will attempt at making an explanation to.

Cholesterol can simply be explained as the presence of unnecessary fatty substances within the body. Cholesterol is a problem to the human health and can be classified into high density lipoprotein or the low density lipoprotein. The low density lipoprotein is what is considered unhealthy for the body. High density lipoprotein can also cause grievous bodily complications such as stoke. But the presence of high density lipoprotein in the body is more preferable if its ratio is less than that of low density lipoprotein. Therapist therefore advocate for the use of basic and edible essential oil as a natural fight against cholesterol in the body.

One of the most efficient forms of essential oil is the Cinnamon essential oil taken out from the leaves of the cinnamon plant common to the region of Sri Lanka and some other Asian countries. It is generally best for overall body composure and improving the look of a person. This is also known to bring down the level of low density lipoprotein in the body, although this has not been scientifically proven to be effective. In these regions, people tend to cultivate the herbs from which the oil is extracted as a household or domestic plant and there are even instances which indicate that people have and are still paying homage to the plants. All this is because of its healing nature.
Another indispensable essential oil, lemon essential oil has a peculiar feature of reducing the thickness of blood, thereby reducing the possibility of acquiring strokes. It is also known that lemon essential oil is good at destroying infections found in the arteries and improves the health condition of the heart. Keep in mind that lemon itself is a fruit rich in medicinal components. Another good treatment for cholesterol is the ingestion of garlic frequently ahead of eating any other meal. At times, it is also advisable to use fats free from cholesterol in cooking.

What should be specifically guarded against is self medication. It is always advisable to resort to any treatment on the recommendation of the doctor. This is because what will work for another may not be the same remedy for you. The prescription you take will vary with the level or intensity of your illness.
