Essential Oils - Peppermint Eucalyptus - Great For Throat And Lung Infections

Peppermint Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus Dives) comes from Australia and Brazil and is obtained through steam distillation of the leaves. This is the peppermint eucalyptus which has a menthol fragrance reminiscent of all things minty. This is a medium sized eucalyptus tree with a short trunk, spreading branches and a fibrous grey bark. The young leaves are blue and heart-shaped; the mature leaves are very aromatic, thick and tapering at both ends.

Traditionally the aborigines used the burning leaves in the form of fumigation for the relief of fever. In a light rain, the air is clear and breathable thanks to these wonderfully fragrant trees.

How Can Peppermint Eucalyptus Help Us Today?

This particular eucalyptus has mucolytic, diuretic and antibacterial properties. It is used for hypertension and for throat and lung infections and inhaled for sinus and bronchial infections. The main effects of this particular eucalyptus though are mucolytic in that they help to liquefy thick mucus. Eucalyptus dives (peppermint eucalyptus) can be diluted one part essential oil with one part mixing oil. It can also be diffused. Eucalyptus dives is non-toxic, non-irritant, and non-sensitizing. This oil should NOT be taken internally--it is best used by rubing on the body or inhaling.
